Moving Beyond Social Anxiety

Welcome to More Than Shyness!

I’m glad you’re here. If you have social anxiety, or you know someone who does, or even if you’re just curious, you’re in the right place. This website is about my 40-year journey moving beyond Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). It’s a journey marked by struggle, discovery, and growth.

My personal mission in life is to help others navigate their own journeys.

I believe that sharing my story can do this, offering some hope along the way. Over the years, I’ve tried many approaches to overcoming Social Anxiety Disorder. I learned what works and what doesn’t and how important it is to keep moving forward. I consider myself fortunate to have navigated a path to a meaningful life despite social anxiety. I know that living with SAD can be overwhelming, but I’ve also found that you don’t have to wait for your anxiety to disappear before you start living your life.

This website includes many resources on social anxiety

More Than Shyness: A Self-Help Guide for Moving Beyond Social Anxiety Disorder

I spent years trapped by social anxiety—and I know what it’s like to feel stuck, invisible, and alone. This book is the roadmap I wish I had.

My journey began with social anxiety disorder, but it became so much more. What started as survival turned into decades of healing, growth, and discovery. More Than Shyness is a deeply personal and practical guide drawn from a 40-year journey—from hiding in the shadows to building a life filled with meaning and connection.

This book is for you if:

  • You feel held back by anxiety in work, school, friendships, or relationships.
  • You’ve lost touch with who you are or what matters to you.
  • You feel like giving up, or like you’re the only one struggling this way.
  • Whether you’re just now learning it has a name—or you’ve been trying different things for years—this book can be your guide to moving beyond social anxiety.

What you’ll find inside:

  • A roadmap for recovery based on experience, insight, and evidence-based tools.
  • A powerful memoir of life with SAD, showing how it affects every part of life—and how it can be overcome.
  • Honest reflections on what helped: self-help, SMART goals, CBT, ACT, gradual exposure, journaling, mindfulness, and more.
  • Why no single method was the complete answer—and how combining the right ones for you can lead to lasting change.
  • The mindset shift that changed everything: from fighting anxiety to building a meaningful life.
  • Practical advice for managing anxiety, building habits, showing up, and navigating setbacks.

What makes this book different?

There’s no one-size-fits-all cure. I’m not pushing any specific method—instead, I offer a strategy to help you find what works, then build a sustainable practice around it.

As someone who has hosted support groups and run recovery workshops, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many people on this journey. Today, I live a full and meaningful life. Social anxiety no longer holds me back—and I want the same for you.
