Are you interested in attending an in-person support group for social anxiety? What about starting one in your area? From experience, I know these groups can be transformational for both the participants and the group leader. But finding a group locally can be hard. That’s why I’m building a free platform to help people start support groups, find existing groups in their area, and access everything they need to make those groups successful.
This page is for you to register your interest so I can notify you as soon as the platform is ready. By registering, you’re not just staying in the loop but also helping me gauge where there’s enough interest in your location to launch new groups. Every registration brings us one step closer to making these meetups happen.
What I’m Building
The platform will be similar to Meetup, except it will focus on social anxiety disorder and will be entirely free for everyone, including participants and group organizers.
- You’ll be notified and encouraged to join if a group starts nearby.
- Organizers will be able to see how many people are interested in their area before starting a group.
- Organizers can access facilitator guides, sample meeting agendas, conversation starters, etc.
- A private forum will be provided, where group leaders can exchange tips, materials, and encouragement.
- I’ll help spread the word about your group through this site, my book, and other outreach efforts. You’ll also get guidance on promoting your group locally and finding a venue.
Why Attend an In-Person Group
Social anxiety can feel isolating, but meeting face-to-face with others who understand can be incredibly powerful. In-person groups offer:
- Validation and connection from people who relate.
- A safe space to practice social interaction without judgment.
- Shared strategies and support from others on the same journey.
- Opportunities for genuine growth, healing, and friendship.
Why You Might Want to Start a Group
Even if you still struggle with anxiety, facilitating a group can be a meaningful and empowering experience. You don’t have to be “fully recovered,” just willing to create a space for others to connect.
As a facilitator, you’ll receive:
- A step-by-step facilitator’s guide (including how to handle group dynamics, anxiety, and common challenges).
- Tips for attracting members and finding free or low-cost venues.
- Meeting outlines to make planning easy.
- Ongoing support from a network of fellow facilitators.
